Sports Reporter

The Grand Island Independent, a Lee Enterprises, Inc. publication is seeking a full-time, talented, action-oriented Sports Reporter to cover local school sports. The Grand Island Independent’s goal is to grow our sports online presence with robust sports stories, which include pictures, and video that capture the community’s interest. The ideal candidate will be adept at telling the story of a game through writing, video, and photos in print and via multi-media platforms to meet the needs of all of our readers. Grand Island is a growing community of approximately 50,000 citizens just a few hours from Lincoln and Omaha in Nebraska.

Preferred candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in journalism and experience covering sports however, upcoming and recent new graduates are encouraged to apply. A strong knowledge of AP style and excellent grammar is required. The ability to leverage social media and online platforms as tools to disseminate breaking stories is a must. Reliable transportation, current driver’s license, auto insurance and a satisfactory motor vehicle record is required.
