Reporter, Fossil Fuels and Climate

New Posted 13 December 2022 | Remote or New York, NY | The Guardian

Guardian US is looking for a reporter to cover the fossil fuel industry’s influence on US politics, climate policy and social attitudes, and the climate lawsuits brought by a number of US cities and states against the industry. A particular focus will be the network of law firms, banks and PR firms that enable the industry to continue operating by frustrating attempts at regulatory or legal moves, cultivating positive and often misleading narratives or continuing to fund their extractive investments. Other story areas could include industry donations to politicians; lobbying and public relations campaigns by the industry; and the impact of the major recent climate legislation on the industry and on public lands where further drilling could take place.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who will come with a sheaf of ideas they’d like to pursue. They would also have an interest in, and some experience of, investigative and data reporting, as the goal of this series is to break news as well as report it. And they understand the Guardian's lens on this crucial topic. This role will be part of our special project on fossil fuels and climate, and follows on from our first year of coverage.
