The Idaho Statesman seeks two enterprising young journalists to serve as paid interns in its award-winning newsroom in Boise, one of the fastest-growing metro areas in America.
At the Idaho Statesman, we put a premium on breaking stories first as well as investing in hard-nosed, accountability journalism that our audience can’t get anywhere else.
Our journalism focuses on our local communities, and in that role we have the ability to spotlight problems, highlight solutions and truly make a difference -- all the reasons you got into journalism. And we are part of McClatchy, a digitally driven company focused on innovation, with newsrooms in 30 communities in the United States,
In the past 18 months, our team has produced work that inspired a change to Idaho law about use of restraint-and-seclusion techniques in schools, spotlighted a U.S. senator's attempt to reroute Boise air traffic from the area where he lives, exposed the plight of some sheepherders working in Idaho with little oversight of their working conditions, explained the state of rural Idaho's crumbling schools and deepened the public's understanding of the murder case involving four deaths at the University of Idaho. In 2022, the Idaho Press Club honored Statesman staffers with the reporter of the year, sports reporter of the year, photographer of the year and rookie of the year awards.
We are located in Boise, Idaho, a community that lands on many best-of lists for its quality of life. Our community features unique restaurants, many opportunities for outdoor recreation and a lively arts scene.
In our intern reporters, we’re seeking versatile and resourceful journalists who are eager to learn and dive into a variety of assignments. No two days are likely to look the same.
