Job purpose
The Independent’s Deputy US Editor works with the US Editor to leads our expanding editorial operation in America.
Working closely with the US Editor, the Deputy US Editor will lead our US coverage, ensuring we have regular, ground-breaking exclusives, quality comment and analysis, and play a significant role in setting the US news agenda.
The successful applicant will help oversee our news, culture and lifestyle teams based in New York, Washington DC and Los Angeles.
They will work closely with the audience and multimedia teams – as well as colleagues in London - to ensure we optimise all of our opportunities, and plan comprehensively for key events and periods in the news calendar.
They will play a pivotal role in ensuring The Independent consolidates its position as the fastest growing UK news brand in the US year-on-year, and lead our ambition to ensure we climb the rankings of the top 10 digital news brands in the States.
Skills
The successful candidate will have significant senior level experience and a proven track record in editorial leadership. Their portfolio will include work for some of the world’s best media brands.
They will have a good understanding of the US editorial environment and be excited by the prospect of working in an international news media organisation.
They must be able to exhibit an in-depth knowledge of attracting, retaining and growing a digital news audience and should have experience of working in a multimedia news environment.
They will have a track record of successfully leading a team, and significant management know-how and experience.
