Indiana Lawyer, Indiana’s leading print and online legal news publication, seeks a multimedia journalist to become its next reporter.

Are you a journalist with multimedia experience? Do you enjoy reading about court cases or digging into a case file? Did you toy with the idea of law school but decided on journalism? If so, this is the job for you.

As an Indiana Lawyer reporter, you’ll be part of a fast-paced newsroom that focuses both on digital daily news coverage and longer-form print coverage. You’ll take the lead on Indiana Lawyer Daily, our e-newsletter distributed every afternoon, and you’ll write two stories for each issue of our biweekly print publication. We’re a news publication with a focus on the legal industry, so you’ll definitely write about the court system. But you’ll also have the chance to dig into other issues, such as legal education, government/politics, the opioid crisis, general breaking news, features articles, even sports — and more. Sometimes stories will be assigned to you, and other times you’ll find them on your own.

In addition to print/digital reporting, the Indiana Lawyer reporter will be a co-host on the Indiana Lawyer podcast, writing and recording scripts alongside another reporter and the managing editor. You’ll also assist with posting stories to our website and e-newsletters as needed. This reporter will juggle multiple deadlines, so we’re looking for someone who’s organized and a go-getter.

Here’s what you’ll bring to our team:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Newsroom experience.
A strong command of AP style.
Excellent time management skills.
Experience with script writing.
A basic understanding of the court system and a willingness to learn that system on an in-depth level.
Critical thinking skills that enable you to read and understand court documents.
Excellent communication skills, both internally and externally.
Team mentality.
Efficiency, with a strong respect for deadlines.
Strong relationship-building skills.
