The Insurer is looking for an experienced journalist with deep industry knowledge and engagement for the new role of Global (Re)Insurance Correspondent.
The Global (Re)Insurance Correspondent will take a key role in developing the team’s market-leading coverage of the specialty non-life (re)insurance industry for its website and newsletter subscribers. They will also contribute to Reuters coverage of major insurance-related news.
The scope of The Insurer and its stable of titles -- including Program Manager, E&S Insurer, Cyber Risk Insurer, Parametric Insurer and Sustainable Insurer -- is global with a focus on underwriting and distribution around complex risk, and the capital, infrastructure and services that support it.
Its coverage provides a highly engaged audience of subscribers with business-critical intelligence and information to help them navigate the evolving landscape of an industry that plays a critical role enabling almost every area of the global economy in a fast-changing risk environment.
About the Role
An important part of the job will be collaborating with editors and reporters on The Insurer’s team in London and New York as well as worldwide. The successful candidate will also work with other Reuters teams covering adjacent topics such as energy and climate policy, to deliver stories with smart analysis and essential context in a timely way.
As Global (Re)Insurance Correspondent, you will:
Deliver exclusive and value-add news coverage of the global (re)insurance market, including the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific
Deepen Continental European coverage and develop new and existing contacts
Develop coverage of the Asia Pacific insurance and reinsurance markets and nurture new and existing contacts
Work with The Insurer’s newsroom, including editors and journalists to develop story ideas across markets and geographies
Conduct written and video interviews with leading figures on key industry and company-specific topics
Work with the The Insurer team on shaping and delivering analysis and other value-add content
Collaborate with other Reuters teams to cover adjacent areas
Regularly travel to cover conferences and other industry events
Collaborate with The Insurer events team, with scope for moderating panels and roundtables on (re)insurance industry topics
About You
The Global (Re)Insurance Correspondent will need to demonstrate:
A significant level of experience covering the (re)insurance industry, a proven track record of developing and delivering exclusives and enterprise stories
A strong understanding of the dynamics that drive the (re)insurance industry, from pricing, losses, demand, emerging risk, reinsurance and legislative developments to M&A, capital, distribution, and technology
An ability to process and analyse industry data, including financials of insurers, reinsurers and intermediaries and statutory filings
A strong book of industry contacts and an ability to build it out in new geographies
Outstanding journalistic skills
An established market presence
Experience moderating panels and roundtable discussions on (re)insurance industry dynamics
A willingness to collaborate with editors and journalists at The Insurer as well as across relevant Reuters news teams
