Production Editor (Level 1 Journalist)

The Insurer – now part of Reuters Professional – is a market-leading specialty (re)insurance news, analysis and data service. We are looking for a Production Editor to work with our New York-based team of editors and journalists as they break industry news and deliver market-leading content to our audience.

This is a role that requires a broad range of production and copy-editing skills, working closely with our reporting team in the U.S. as well as our London-based production team. The ideal candidate would have experience operating in a business-to-business publishing environment and an enthusiastic, flexible approach with a desire to work in a small but growing team.

At The Insurer, our scope is global, but our focus is on underwriting and distribution in the area of complex risk, and the capital, infrastructure and services that support it. Insurance and reinsurance play a critical role enabling almost every area of the global economy in a fast-changing risk environment shaped by diverse factors from climate change to cyber threats.

About the Role
As Production Editor at The Insurer, you will:

Join our growing U.S. team as they cover the sector for our flagship title The Insurer and its sister publications Program Manager, E&S Insurer and Cyber Risk Insurer
Edit a range of content from breaking news to analysis and features filed by our team of editors and journalists
Uphold our high editorial standards and ensure consistency of style in our published content
Work with journalists and editors to research and source eye-catching images to accompany articles
Create or re-style data-driven graphics to support and illustrate our reporting based on briefs from our team of editors and journalists
Lay out and upload articles for online publishing through our content management system, including the formatting and sending of breaking news alerts
Work with our editors on the production of daily emailed newsletters
Be based in New York or able to work as efficiently from another U.S. location
Work with our editors as well as our London-based production team on the layout of monthly PDF publications

About You
You’re a fit for the role of Production Editor at The Insurer if your background includes:

At least three years of experience in copy-editing and production, preferably at a digital business-to-business publications
Experience of working at a financial publication is desirable but not essential
A meticulous approach to copy-editing and eye for detail together with strong organisational and workflow management skills
A demonstrable track record of delivering consistently edited copy under pressure while adhering to strict deadlines
Enthusiasm, imagination and digital ideas are all essential. Understanding of social media and SEO as well as a strong news sense and judgement are highly preferred
Experience with content management systems and email distribution systems
Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud software (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) is required

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations.

Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $72,000 - $130,000.
