The Journal, a six-day daily in Martinsburg, West Virginia, is seeking a reporter who will also be responsible for beat coverage, as well as breaking news and enterprise reporting. The Journal covers the Eastern Panhandle in West Virginia, including Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties. The Eastern Panhandle is part of the the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. Qualified candidates will have reporting and/or writing experience. The right candidate will also be highly motivated and curious enough to investigate and break major news stories. We plan to fill this job with a reporter who can produce well-written, hard-hitting daily stories, as well as short- and long-term enterprise assignments. We’re also looking for an individual who has a keen sense for news, can generate interesting story ideas, is a team player, has a positive attitude, and can work with a collaborative spirit with others under daily deadline pressures. Must also be internet/social media savvy and possess online skills to include writing brief web updates and posting stories to our website, as well as a willingness to shoot videos and photographs. A bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, English, or related program, is required. Some reporting experience, or equivalent, is preferred. Must have strong grammar and knowledge of AP style. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and furnish current driving record with no more than two points for a period of two years, and an acceptable driving history with no suspensions.
