Seaton Publishing is searching for a dynamic journalist to write, edit and coordinate freelancers for the weekly Junction City Union. We're looking for someone who can write as well as guide freelancers to do great, community-focused journalism. The successful candidate will have solid news judgement and excellent command of AP style. Perhaps most importantly, this person must be able to coordinate tasks to get the best, most timely pieces to readers online and in the weekly print edition. The Union is the newspaper of record in Junction City, Kansas, a town of about 23,000 in the beautiful Flint Hills. It's adjacent to Fort Riley and Milford Lake. Just down the road is Manhattan, home to Kansas State University. Wichita and Kansas City are both about two hours away. Seaton Publishing is a family-owned company whose holdings also include The Manhattan Mercury, two weekly newspapers in Wamego, and other papers in Nebraska, South Dakota and Colorado. The Union editor will work with the Manhattan editor, sharing resources and content to get the best regional coverage possible. The company offers a salary and benefits package that includes medical, vision and dental insurance, and a profit-sharing plan. Bachelor's degree preferred. To apply, please send a cover letter, résumé and three to five clips to Megan Moser at mmoser@themercury.com. No phone calls, please.
