The Kitchn is looking for an Editorial Assistant to join our dynamic team. We are seeking an organized and passionate individual, who under the direction of senior editors and the Editor in Chief, will provide hands-on assistance with content production for the site and essential support for the growth of the editorial team.
This role is responsible for assisting in the production of stories for the Groceries and News verticals, including finding pitches, reporting on trending news and product and retailer stories, as well as general research. The Editorial Assistant will also help with various content management and planning tasks. Strong writing and reporting skills, ability to juggle priorities under tight deadlines, and eagerness to collaborate are all musts. The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude and upbeat spirit, and be a team player.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with The Kitchn editors, assisting with all elements of content production, including research and writing
Pitch and produce trending news stories
Refresh archival and produce new SEO content, following best practices for optimization and editorial standards
Attend daily/weekly/monthly planning and insights meetings with members of The Kitchn and Growth Teams
Provide vacation coverage for Groceries and News & Features editors
Contribute ideas to team brainstorms and pitch sessions
Assist in managing editorial calendars
Monitor performance of edit content using Parse.ly
Manage the general editorial inbox
Attend events as needed
Requirements:
1 year experience in digital media and/or publishing (focus on food content a plus)
Strong writing skills and voice, with the ability to speak to the home cook like a friend
Top-notch organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
A team player with a desire to collaborate across teams
An astute awareness of internet trends, pop culture, and the cultural zeitgeist, especially as it relates to food and cooking
Ability to balance multiple priorities and quickly shift in the face of new information and under tight deadlines
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work within technical systems/content management systems (CMS)
Passion for food and cooking
Salary Range: $55,000 - 60,000
