The Lever is an award-winning reader-supported investigative news outlet dedicated to following the money and holding the powerful accountable. Founded in 2020 by journalist David Sirota and a team of reporters, The Lever has quickly attracted a robust following thanks to its in-depth investigations and uncompromising analyses of matters related to local and national politics, business corruption, climate change, health care, and more. With its fast-growing subscribership, The Lever is building a news organization devoted to holding power accountable.
The Position:
The Lever is looking for a diligent and resourceful money-in-politics reporter with a track record of delivering impactful investigative stories that shed light on the inner workings of the U.S. political system. The reporter will use record requests, subject-matter expertise, and a deep well of sources to generate eye-opening investigative scoops and analyses based on the news cycle of the day. And they will have the writing chops to turn their reporting into clear, compelling stories that break through the noise and facilitate change. As we head into an election year, we’re not interested in Beltway gossip; we’re following the money to expose the backroom deals screwing over the American people.
Candidates who have a history of groundbreaking reporting on politics, political corruption, and dark money will be considered. The reporter will be expected to file roughly a story a week, with the opportunity to develop and deliver longer deep-dive reports. While the position is fully remote, applicants based in the Washington, D.C. area, or who are willing to relocate there, will be given priority. This is a fully remote and full-time, salaried position with benefits including a generous health care stipend, office expense reimbursements, and paid time off.
Salary Range: $60,000-$80,000
