We are seeking a Content Editor, AI-Focused Technology on a contract basis to create clear, engaging blog content about complex cutting-edge technology for an audience of experts (researchers, engineers, and developers) and savvy, interested non-experts. This role will report to a project manager or director. The role is 100% remote to these locations: Baltimore, MD, Boston, MA, Houston, TX, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Daly City, CA.
What You’ll Do
Lead the development of multiple pieces of content concurrently, from concept to publication, often under tight deadlines
Manage editorial projects with a wide range of stakeholders and partners in public relations, marketing, creative, product, and legal
Listen to feedback and use it to improve the quality of the stories prior to publication
Help develop content beyond text-based stories—including infographics, charts, and videos
Manage a content calendar, build blog posts in the company's publishing tool, and oversee other aspects of blog creation
Collaborate with the company's researchers and other technical leads to unpack dense technical work on topics like self-supervised learning, natural language understanding, object segmentation, zero-shot learning, and Transformer-based AI (Artificial Intelligence) models
Explain how a piece of technology works and convey what makes it interesting and noteworthy, why it matters, and how it ties to the company's long-term vision
Write articles from scratch, with input from subject matter experts
Partner with researchers and engineers to revise and finalize their drafts
Must-Haves
2-4+ years of editorial experience, preferably focused on technology, writing both short- and long-form content under tight deadlines
Project Management - ability to take a story from the conceptional phase to the publishing phase
Content Management System experience - WordPress as an example
Journalist/writing background/inhouse editing and writing experience
Experience writing about technology for both experts and non-experts
Experience managing editorial projects - ability to create work back plans, track feedback and approvals, collaborate with graphic designers and others
Ability to work under significant time constraints and shifting timelines
Proven ability managing complex editorial projects, taking in (sometimes conflicting) feedback, and incorporating it as appropriate
Proven ability to work with dense, complex source material (such as research papers) and translate it into clear, accessible prose
Experience developing visual content and content for social media
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a highly cross-functional team
AI background covering machine learning/AI topics experience preferred
Ability to navigate conflicting feedback (Example: Researcher and Public Relations Lead want two different things so bridge the gaps)
Experience digesting research papers and other dense source material is a strong plus
