We are seeking a Technical Writer on a contract basis to join our team and help ensure that our Software Development Kit (SDK) is well-documented, user-friendly, and accessible to developers worldwide. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining technical documentation to support the developer community. Will directly contribute to the success of our SDK and the Virtual Reality (VR) experiences built on it. The role is 100% remote to these locations: Baltimore, MD, Boston, MA, Houston, TX, State of California, New York, NY, Seattle, and Redmond, WA.

What You’ll Do:

Create, update, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including user guides, API references, and troubleshooting guides
Collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to gather information and ensure documentation accuracy and relevance
Ensure that all documentation is user-centric, easy to understand, and well-organized, meeting the needs of both novice and experienced developers
Conduct regular reviews of existing documentation and proactively recommend improvements to enhance usability and completeness
Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and emerging trends in technical writing and documentation to continuously improve our documentation standards
Develop a comprehensive user guide for the SDK, covering an overview of the platform, installation instructions, and how-to guides for common tasks
Create an extensive API reference for the SDK, including detailed descriptions of each API function, example code snippets, and usage guidelines
Produce a troubleshooting guide for common issues and their solutions, providing developers with the support they need to overcome challenges
Continuously update the existing documentation to reflect new features, changes, and improvements as they are released
Solicit and gather feedback from users to assess the quality and usefulness of the documentation, incorporating feedback to enhance the documentation quality further

Must-Haves:

5+ years of relevant experience
Proven experience in technical writing, preferably in the software or technology industry
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Proficiency in using documentation tools and software
Familiarity with VR technology and software development is a plus
Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality documentation
Experience with Unreal Engine and Unity game engines is a plus

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Technical Communication, Computer Science, or a related discipline)

Hours & Location:

M-F, 40 hours/week. This role will be 100% remote.
