Assistant Editor, Home Team

New Posted 2 March 2022 | New York, NY | The New York Times

The Home Team is seeking an assistant editor who will help manage the team, guide The Times's weekend digital report and use our digital platforms to build stronger relationships with readers. These editors help set the lineups for our home screen, oversee push notifications and direct and execute the framing and targeting of our stories for a variety of audiences. They supervise staff editors and senior staff editors, giving performance feedback and assisting with evaluations. They also help us maintain a sharp focus on short- and long-term objectives, including to build a culture that prizes creativity and initiative. Assistant editors are important collaborators with our colleagues in technology, product and design on evolving forms of journalism and the platforms that deliver it. They perform critical reviews of stories, graphics, videos, etc. These reviews include assessing the quality and tone of what we publish, as well as ensuring that our content is properly produced with links, photos, videos or other relevant digital assets. Writing and approving push notifications, headlines and news summaries, and working with the appropriate editors to make necessary adjustments, is a critical part of the job. They also approve Times references and uses of edgy language.
