The Metro desk of The New York Times is looking for an assistant editor to help shape its daily coverage by overseeing the work of a team of reporters. This editor would play a key role in selecting, assigning and editing breaking news stories, features and mid-range enterprise, as well as overseeing lines of coverage of ongoing stories relevant to their team. Candidates should possess a combination of traditional editing skills, an openness to trying new story-telling approaches, the metabolism to run breaking news coverage and the focus to deliver slow-developing enterprise. Responsibilities would include: Managing a team of reporters. Overseeing Live coverage of major breaking news events on their reporters' beats. Collaborating with photo, data, graphics and audio journalists to deliver high-impact digital stories. Generating ideas for news and enterprise, not just for their reporters but for the desk as a whole. This is an excluded position.
