The Health and Science desk seeks a creative, thoughtful reporter who can enrich our coverage of the pandemic and also ignite our readers’ interest in the natural world. The job title, “science reporter,” is intentionally broad: We want to know how you would define and approach the beat and find stories beyond embargoed press releases. Experience in science writing is required. Cover and present the news accurately and cogently in a range of formats, including in traditional stories, live briefings, and audio interviews: report news and feature stories through interviews, data research and on the ground observation; critically evaluate the methodologies used in newsworthy scientific and health studies; write clearly and cogently and to lengths agreed to with your editor; work collaboratively with your editor and other Times reporters; find and cultivate news sources; break news and find ambitious enterprise subjects.
