Live coverage, a major newsroom priority, is important in both keeping our subscribers informed and bringing new readers to The Times. The newly created Live team works with desks across the newsroom to seize on live opportunities, run compelling live coverage and evolve the live experience for readers. We’re looking for a veteran journalist to fill an editor position in New York. The successful candidate must be energized by breaking news and want to help cover the biggest stories of the day. Applicants should be nimble enough to tackle many topics — from the latest political news to major Covid developments to less weighty topics like the National Spelling Bee — while working on fast-moving coverage that is the future of the report. This is an excellent opportunity to partner with colleagues from across the newsroom, and from all over the world. Candidates for this excluded position should be team players who have an interest in managing and training other journalists, sometimes during big news moments. We’re looking for diplomats who have the people skills to work collaboratively with senior newsroom leaders and new hires alike. You’ll be coordinating across the newsroom on stories that cross desks and running after-action reviews on how our coverage fared. An eagerness to drive the evolution of news coverage in the digital age is also essential. If interested, please apply on Workday and give your sense of what you’d bring to the job and what you think works in our live coverage and what needs to be refined.
