Are you interested in editing news stories about the worlds of movies, music, television, theater, art, dance and classical music? If so, there’s a senior staff editor position open on the Culture desk with your name on it. Working with our deputy editor in charge of news as well as our subject-specific assigning editors, you will work primarily on breaking news, live briefings and enterprise. You will work with Culture department beat and general assignment reporters as well as freelancers and the occasional critic. The Culture desk is a font of fast-breaking, highly-competitive, often-fascinating major news stories, from the most prestigious arts organizations in the world to the trials and tribulations of major household names. When Alec Baldwin fatally shoots a cinematographer on a film set, Bill Cosby is freed from prison, Britney Spears tries to get out of her conservatorship, or Will Smith slaps Chris Rock on the stage of the Academy Awards before winning the Oscar for best actor, Culture aims to be fast, authoritative, and sophisticated, and to set the pace for coverage. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative editor with excellent news judgment who is comfortable working both with writers that possess deep experience as well as those less so. Experience with live coverage is a plus; night and weekend work is a possibility.
