Since forming, the NYT Audio team has been driven by an ambition to push the form and innovate in audio storytelling. Now, we’re looking for a seasoned Executive Producer to oversee that innovation for a portfolio of new and ongoing shows, primarily in the conversation space. The person in this role should have demonstrated experience as an editorial leader in the audio space including: developing shows from scratch, hiring and managing strong teams, developing hosts new to audio, having a sense of what kinds of shows get listeners hooked and upholding standards for excellence. The EP should also be highly skilled in every aspect of editing -- from structuring an episode, pacing and line editing to noting the stray breath that should be cut and the piece of music that comes in one beat too late. Because the portfolio may cover a range of topics, they should bring curiosity and intellectual range to these and other areas, including books, politics and more. They should be excited and inspired by the journalistic and storytelling opportunities at The Times as well as highly organized, self-directed, collaborative and enterprising. They should be able to navigate a complex newsroom, harness the editorial ambitions of their teams and direct them at great work, make a plan for resourcing and staffing and be able to step in to lead production as an episode editor, as needed.
