Join the 2023 New York Times Fellowship class as an Op-Ed editing fellow. The Op-Ed editing fellow will commission and edit opinion essays from outside contributors (journalists, experts and others) on a broad theme to be developed by the fellow in collaboration with Op-Ed editors. Candidates should have a sharp eye for detail; a strong sense of fresh arguments and good writing; superb research skills; a devotion to the highest standards of accuracy, precision and verification; the ability to dive into unfamiliar material on deadline; discretion in handling sensitive editorial material; and a strong interest in opinion journalism. A familiarity with trends in opinion writing among our competitors, an abiding interest in a wide range of subjects and strong news judgment are also critical. This program is for early-career journalists. Applicants with more than five years of full-time, professional journalism experience beyond school will not be considered. The most competitive candidates will be college graduates or postgraduates or career pivoters of any age who have had multiple internships or equivalent experience in related fields.
