The Magazine is looking for an experienced senior editor to help lead the Times’s new “Ideas” project. This editor will be responsible for assigning, editing, top editing and curating explanatory and ideas-driven journalism from writers all around the newsroom.
Responsibilities:
Program a weekly ideas essay from various desks and writers throughout the newsroom.
Develop relationships with desks to help cultivate essays on the big questions and lines of thought dominating the news.
Work with art directors and audience editors to appropriately package and frame the essays to reach a wide readership.
Basic Qualifications:
At least 7 years of experience at a major publication or media organization is required.
Experience commissioning essays and criticism and editing a wide range of writers.
Excellent news judgment and sharp editing skills.
A commitment to Times values.

Ideal candidates will possess a strong sense of structure and argument, a sense of humor and a keen ear for stylish writing.
Candidates should also have wide-ranging interests, from hard news to cultural subjects; diplomatic skills to work effectively with writers and editors across the organization; and grace under deadline pressure.

The annual base pay salary for this role is between $120,000.00 and $140,000.00.
