The New York Times Licensing Group (nytlicensing.com), the primary content licensing unit of The New York Times, seeks a senior editor to join our editorial team.
The licensing and syndication editorial team distributes New York Times and third-party content to clients around the world. We manage articles on the news wires, editing and repackaging columns, news stories and features.
We also contribute to the creation and editing of bespoke publications and special sections for The Times, featuring commissioned essays.
As senior editor, you will report directly to the Assistant Managing Editor, and will be in charge of copy edits, abridgments, backfields of essays and columns, and curation. The senior editor will foster relationships with our content providers and provide editorial support to our sales, marketing and editorial development teams. This is a full-time salaried position.
Responsibilities:
Editorial duties include:
Maintain and foster our working relationships with content providers.
Deliver all articles by deadline, edited according to each service’s parameters and to Times standards.
Edit and commission contributions for special sections and publications.
Slot (second read) articles.
File corrections and kills.
Coordinate with the photo editors to ensure that the correct art is posted with articles.
Pay invoices from outside contributors and helping manage any contracts.
Check rights to articles and communicating with the sales team regarding content queries.
Send content advisories, newsletters and budgets to clients.
Provide editorial assistance on all projects from the editorial development team.
Basic Qualifications:
At least three to five years of high-level editing experience
Minimum of a college bachelor’s degree
You are an organized and creative collaborator
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of both AP and Times Styles
Proficiency in a foreign language, especially Spanish, Mandarin or Portuguese
Avid consumer of all media and a passion for The New York Times brand
Degree in communications or journalism
The annual base pay range for this role is between $80,000-$85,000.
