The Senior Search Editor assists the newsroom's head of editorial search by overseeing day-to-day editorial search operations and interfacing with Audience Product on tools and feature enhancements. This person will work to put into context search and audience strategies that are driving our business goals as well as serving our journalistic goals. They are a key leader who will implement and oversee systems and drive progress.

Responsibilities include:

Work on search and audience strategy projects alongside head of editorial search, including overseeing work on evergreen and international search targets

Help set search goals and track performance

Strategic planning with desks on tentpole events, assess performance after major news moments

Develop workflows across New York, London and future locations of SEO editors

Provide monthly reporting on our search performance across Google search results on our highest priority storylines and ongoing overall search strategy

Partner with DIG and SEO experts to scale learnings and use data to inform content and programming recommendations on a daily basis

Work on executing strategies for new and existing evergreen content including benchmarking, communicating strategic changes and regular readouts on performance.

Incorporate search-space learnings into team strategy and best practices on the editorial SEO team and broader newsroom

Manage a team of search editors, giving them stretch assignments and looking after their morale and career development

Contribute to regular audience performance reporting including daily reports to the masthead on coverage opportunities and trends

Basic Qualifications:

Excellent news judgment

Data fluency and ease charting strategic shifts using analysis

Exceptional organizational and project management skills

Commitment to The New York Times mission and values

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working closely with editors and reporters and developing training materials

Four years of experience in editorial SEO in a newsroom

The annual base pay salary for this role is between $130,000.00 and $140,000.00.
