The Times has an unparalleled reputation for excellence in visual journalism. We have defined multimedia storytelling for the news industry and established ourselves as the clear leader. Over the past several years, our work with 3D and spatial formats has revealed new and unique opportunities to tell stories that expand our readers’ understanding of the world and help them navigate it.
We are seeking a technically curious creative leader who will shape and deliver spatial news projects on virtual and augmented reality platforms.
You will be part of a team of journalists, engineers and designers exploring journalistic applications of virtual and augmented reality. In concert with members of the Graphics, Photo, Games, R&D and Audience Development teams, as well as the creative leads from desks throughout the newsroom, you will be responsible for conceptualizing and creating interactive virtual reality and augmented reality projects. You will identify new/stronger approaches and use-cases for mixed reality in journalism, and supervise a team to pursue them. You will explore how, through research and experimentation, we can reimagine the nature of mixed reality in journalism.
This role is a temporary position initially expected to last for up to 18 months.
Basic Requirements:
2-4 years of experience using emerging technologies to tell stories
A mixed skill set with experience in storytelling, design, and technology
Experience creating and/or editing visual stories
Experience conceiving high quality, impactful immersive experiences, and managing teams to produce them
Ability to triangulate feedback from many stakeholders
Passion for The New York Times’s mission
Preferred Requirements:
Experience in an editorial setting
Skill in visual storytelling: fluency in virtual and augmented reality, photography, video and multimedia design
Ease with reporting

The annual base pay range for this role is between $120,126.82 and $125,000.00.
