New York Times Cooking is looking for a video journalist to bring engaging videos to our on and off-platform audiences. They will be expected to pitch, report and produce compelling videos with an emphasis on reporting, storytelling and entertainment, through the lens of food and cooking. The video journalist should have hands-on experience in all aspects of production, have a background in digital video and a passion for creating engaging social food content.
The right candidate will have excellent video production skills, be data driven, creative, and have strong instincts around telling stories that engage, share, and offer service in a crowded, fast-paced online video landscape. Our ideal candidate is passionate about food and familiar with the digital video landscape. The role will also require flexibility in producing, editing and publishing video material for on and off-platform and social stories.

The Role:
Produce, shoot and edit single- and multi-camera video in the studio, in the field (eg, restaurant kitchens and cooks’ homes) and remotely, with a focus on personality-driven storytelling through the lens of food and cooking.
Pitch and develop ideas for NYT Cooking video content. Regularly identify untapped creative opportunities and stories for the team.
Collaborate with writers, editors, food stylists, prop stylists, chefs, and others to create videos at a level consistent with the Times standards. The right candidate will be on the lookout for stories and recipes that can easily be turned into videos that delight and inform our audience.
May be responsible for casting, building crews and coordinating logistics between in-house production and freelancers
Provide effective and helpful notes on videos created by other producers during the editing process
Publishing videos in NYT Cooking’s content management systems.
Basic Qualifications:
3+ years of relevant experience: producing, directing, shooting and editing videos for an online audience.
Experience in short form visual storytelling or documentary
Must be able to edit quickly and accurately with Adobe Premiere Pro.
Experience creating scripts and outlines for video editors.
Preferred Qualifications:
A strategic mind with a bend towards testing and iterating to find what resonates with various audiences

The annual base pay salary for this role is between $108,872.22 and $118,000.00.
