The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the largest newspaper serving western Pennsylvania, is seeking an ambitious investigative reporter with the ability to take on original, hard-hitting stories and deliver them in clear and compelling prose. Applicants should have the ability to identify stories, wrangle public records from government officials, and execute both short-term enterprise and long-range projects. Expectations include the mining of data, pitching story ideas, and ultimately creating journalism that our readers can't get anywhere else. Demonstrated requester of FOIA and public records is a plus as well as a proficiency in a computer language (R, Python,S-Q-L). The reporter would be a member of the Post-Gazette's investigations team, which has taken on major regional stories that range from deadly and abusive group homes and money laundering in the U.S. steel industry to a failed public housing program that left residents in decrepit and dangerous conditions. The I-team periodically takes on national stories, including exposing major U.S. banks that took in billions of suspicious dollars for corrupt foreign officials, Russian oligarchs and drug traffickers, despite warnings by the banks' own internal experts.  The PG, which won the Pulitzer Prize for breaking news in 2019 and was a Pulitzer finalist in 2020 for local reporting, is dedicated to investigative journalism that holds the powerful accountable.
