News Intern

Research, photograph and write stories for The Post and Courier Beaufort County. Story ideas will be self-generated and assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Researches stories using personal contacts, databases and/or the web; finds the most relevant sources for information; develops a list of knowledgeable, diverse sources.
Produces visual story and project ideas relevant to the communities we serve. Brings “real people” into stories. Works creatively on stories assigned by supervisors.

Produces visual stories that are clear and compelling. Complements stories appropriate multimedia.

Works cooperatively and collaboratively across teams in the newsroom and departments in the newspaper division.
Provides timely information to reporters, visual editors, digital editors, graphic artists and presentation editors.
Provides accurate and detailed caption information with correct spelling and punctuation.

Qualifications

Requirements, minimum education level, and experience:

Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or related field.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills associated with developing trusting relationships and maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
Strong organization and prioritization skills with excellent follow through.
