Deputy Investigations Editor

New Posted 17 June 2022 | Seattle, Washington | The Seattle Times

The Seattle Times, one of the nation’s premier regional news sources for investigative journalism, is looking for a star Deputy Investigations Editor to help lead our growing and dynamic team of investigative reporters. We believe our future depends on our ability to produce deeply reported, compellingly told and visually striking investigative reporting that our digital and print readers can’t get anywhere else. Investigative reporting is a foundational element of The Seattle Times culture, from the publisher on down, with 11 Pulitzer Prizes (including the 2020 National reporting award). Through our recently launched Investigative Journalism Fund, a community-funded partnership with the Seattle Foundation, we are building one of the largest local investigative teams in the nation, with 10 journalists and plans for more. And you’d be doing this in Seattle, a unique, diverse city with world-class cultural and outdoor activities and a highly engaged audience. We are looking for an experienced journalist with finely tuned investigative skills, one who is deeply committed to local accountability reporting, who thrives in a collaborative atmosphere, applies an equity lens to everything from hiring and staff development to story selection and framing, and has integrity in their bones. You may be a skilled reporter looking to pivot into editing, or an editor looking for a distinct challenge. The deputy editor will work with the Investigations Editor to develop and produce short-, mid- and long-range stories and projects, and to coach, edit and inspire a skilled, ambitious team.
