The Sporting News is searching for a Senior Editor to help coordinate and execute coverage serving a new affiliate and commercial editorial team. This role serves as the lead assignment manager responsible for the day-to-day execution of SN’s affiliate OTT strategy which includes but is not limited to planning and editing.

This role is located in Charlotte, N.C. and reports into the Assistant Managing Editor, Affiliate and Commercial. Expected salary range is between $60,000.00 and $70,000.00 commensurate with experience.

HERE’S A BREAKDOWN OF WHAT YOU’LL (PRIMARILY) DO

Manage editorial budget for all OTT affiliate content in North America
Adhere to all established SEO guidelines and best practices with planning and editing
Assign stories and establish deadlines for dedicated team of writers
Edit written content for accuracy, style, and grammar
Update published content to ensure all SN affiliate articles remain fresh, reflect ongoing news cycle and offer best-in-class user experience
Lead daily assignment meetings and communicate specific staff responsibilities/priorities
Manage 3-5 direct reports including editors and writers
Analyze data and Google trends to maximize audience and engagement
Help develop ways new product enhancements to drive engagement and conversion
Track performance against key metrics to inform ever-evolving affiliate content strategy
Contribute to SN’s wider affiliate and commerce strategy as needed (betting, reviews, etc.)

DO YOU HAVE THESE ESSENTIALS?

5-plus years of digital sports media experience
Mastery of writing clean, concise copy
Expert-level knowledge of SEO tools and best practices, and how to utilize them to shape content strategy
Sharp business and marketing acumen with keen understanding of how to best engage and convert a user
Strong editing skills to improve a story and communicate why changes were made
Comfortable working efficiently in a fast-paced, high volume news environment
Sharp and creative news judgment instincts to discern interesting content from noise
Proven knowledge of most major North American sports, and a willingness to learn others outside your comfort zone

Not Essential But Great If You Also Have

College degree in journalism or a related communications field
Content marketing and/or social media marketing experience
Experience people managing or leading a content production team
