The Sporting News is seeking a creative and driven Sub Editor to join its growing global editorial team.
At TSN, our Sub Editors are involved in all aspects of our content creation operation. As part of our team, you will be responsible for identifying, writing and sub-editing compelling stories that engage our users on different digital platforms.
The successful candidate will have elite editing skills and an excellent understanding of how to utilise SEO best practices in content creation. They will also have a wide global sports knowledge, with a particularly strong focus on European and international football. You should know your Premier League and National teams, and understand instinctively how football fans interact with internet culture.
You must be plugged into current sporting events, with a curiosity about what is happening both on the pitch and off it. And you will have an enthusiasm for the fun, weird and inspiring moments that drive conversation around a game — plus the instinct to recognise them before anyone else.
Daily duties could range from editing a breaking news burst to writing SEO-focused content on a game or an explainer that advances a story in real time. You will also contribute to daily planning and ideation around the global football, MMA and Boxing. You should be able to tackle each with an expert’s authority and voice, creating content that informs, entertains, or otherwise adds value to the conversation.
You must also be comfortable writing in formats that transcend traditional newspaper-style articles, including live blogs, explainers and ‘How to Watch’ content, incorporating storytelling enhancers such as embedded video and social media posts, bullet points, tables, graphics and data.
