The Spruce Eats is seeking an Associate Commerce Editor to help write and edit updates to our food- and kitchen-related product roundups and reviews. The ideal candidate is a digitally savvy editor who is passionate about products. Culinary school and/or professional culinary experience and social video interests/skills are a plus, and you’ll also be expected to participate in testing both at home and in our Birmingham lab.
This position will involve updating existing content with fresh testing data or new product releases, producing and publishing content in our CMS, and tracking and reporting the success of all editorial efforts. You may also be asked to do some assigning and editing, working with our network of freelancers. This job requires both analytical and editorial skills to help you provide readers with trusted recommendations tailored to their budgets and needs.
About Your Contributions
Help assign, write, edit, and publish updates to commerce content for Spruce Eats, using SEO, competitor analysis, marketplace knowledge, and internal lab and home testing data to back your editorial approach
Stay current on trends and new products, maintaining close contact with public relations agencies
Assist in our testing process by attending lab tests, evaluating/photographing products at home, writing up results, and gathering/interpreting insights from testers or editors
Onboard and assign to new writers as needed; send out contracts and training materials and submit monthly invoices
Track and use performance data to adjust editorial strategy and programming efforts with a good understanding of basic business KPIs such as growth conversion rates
Use SEO tools and knowledge of the brand to come up with the next big content ideas or improvements to existing articles/blueprints
Collaborate with the commerce, product testing, editorial, growth, and social teams to optimize the commerce library for our readers and search
Communicate effectively throughout the organization on goals and objectives
There may also be an opportunity to pitch and film commerce iPhone videos for social, working with our video editors who provide training and best practices
About You
1-2 years writing and/or editing experience at an online publisher, ideally in the food space
A product enthusiast who spends time shopping and obsessing over purchases, particularly for the kitchen and entertaining
Passionate about food, cooking, and drinks
Detail-oriented and deadline-focused with solid editing skills, as well as a deep understanding of what works on the web
Strong copywriter, capable of writing engaging, lively headlines and blurbs, all while keeping the brand’s voice, values, and style in mind
Self-starter who wants to work for a growing company
College degree required; culinary school or professional cooking experience a bonus
Skills or interest in social video/being on camera a bonus
