The Telegraph's business team covers everything from FTSE 100 companies to the best of the UK's small businesses, from house price data to macro-economic statistics and everything in between.

The role of chief business correspondent is senior and wide-ranging, but focused on the world of finance and its interactions with broader business and politics. It includes coverage of the big banks, big deals and the big controversies in business.

The chief business correspondent will be expected to lead reporting on breaking stories and originate exclusives via a n excellent range of contacts across the City, business and Westminster.

Key responsibilities

Responsible for producing engaging content for the business team's digital and print products
Reporting on big corporate and economics stories of the day.
Having the versatility to write for a general news audience as well as specialised business literate readers.
Fostering relationships with bankers and deal-makers, as well as being able to explain why major takeovers and acquisitions are relevant in a wider context.
Ensuring fast and accurate filing of stories
Responsible to helping to maximise digital traffic through concise and interesting storytelling

Key skills

Experience covering business news in a newspaper, newswire or digital environment
Highly numerically literate - able to turn raw data into a concise news story
Team player
Digitally savvy - understanding of digital storytelling and optimisation of content through social media and SEO
Demonstrable proof of the ability to tell stories in a concise but interesting way
Experience of the M&A market is desirable but not essential
