Senior Culture Writer

To write brilliant features and analysis for the Telegraph’s Culture desk, with a specialism in TV - the area in which we anticipate the bulk of the articles will focus - but the ability to tackle any cultural subject with ingenuity and relentlessness to create original, agenda-setting journalism. This is a role for a senior and experienced journalist with a full contacts book who can produce live, reported pieces to daily deadlines as required by the Culture editors, as well as other longer lead pieces including interviews, comment, analysis and criticism.

We expect the work of this writer to create cultural talking points, help us reach our digital targets and push the Telegraph ahead of its competitors.

Key Responsibilities

Providing all types of high-quality content, as outlined above, filed to agreed deadlines.
Working in close collaboration with senior Culture editors to ensure all copy is the best it can be. This writer needs to be able to take difficult edits without ego and accommodate last minute requirements with efficiency and flexibility
Ensuring all content is of sufficiently high quality that it generates subscriptions and registrations and furthers reader engagement.
Nurturing existing contacts and building new ones to play a proactive part in idea generation as well as execution
Idea generation more broadly: we expect this writer to come up with ideas in response to the news agenda and the wider cultural landscape.

Essential Skills Required For The Role

Substantial experience of Feature writing for National publications
Thorough knowledge of UK and US TV
Excellent industry contacts
Able to work fast and effectively under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
Strong news sense and judgment

Additional Skills Useful For The Role

Experience of news reporting
Good knowledge of other areas of Culture
Keen understanding of the Telegraph audience
