A senior publishing role for an experienced and skilled editor and production journalist leading the publication of the features and lifestyle pages of The Telegraph and enhancing the standards of our digital publishing. You will work across a diverse mix of subjects, ensuring that our priority content is published on print pages accurately and in an engaging and visually stunning way. Working with the wider print and digital publishing team, you will be capable of editing a print section and publishing stories with flair. You will be comfortable conceptualising layouts on the page and leading a team, and have a natural instinct for effective use of visuals, from photography and illustration to best-practice for infographics.
Key Responsibilities
Editing the daily Features section of The Telegraph in liaison with the Head of Features
Leading a page editing team to deliver the daily Features section to the highest quality and hitting deadlines
Deciding on the priority content for print with the Director of Content and Head of Features, and being accountable for copy, headlines and page furniture being of excellent quality
Leading the Lifestyle print publishing team, working with the Head of Lifestyle to produce The Telegraph’s Lifestyle weekend supplements, ensuring copy and visual layout are produced and published to an exceptional standard
Overseeing the production of copy for print and online to a high standard ensuring it is accurate, well structured, sharply written and to word count.
Writing effective headlines and standfirsts that can speak to both print and digital audiences.
Work alongside the subbing, design and picture teams to ensure copy flow is hitting daily targets and the production of the print pages run smoothly and to deadline.
Be equally comfortable subbing copy as well as copy editing.
A keen awareness of the Telegraph audience in both print and digital and how to effectively engage with each.
Liaising with digital editors and visual storytelling regarding commissions and help with creative solutions.
A razor sharp eye for legally sensitive content to quickly refer for guidance.
Proofreading pages as and when required.
Key Skills
Experience of newspaper section editing and leading a team.
Significant time spent in regional, trade or national level media organisations.
Copy-editing, proofing, subbing and production to a high standard.
Quick, accurate writing of headlines.
Publishing skills, including knowledge of visual storytelling, infographics and a brilliant eye for photography as well as creative flair for info boxes, polls etc
Enthusiasm, imagination and digital knowledge are all essential.
Ability to respond well under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
