Political Reporter

New Posted 26 June 2023 | New Orleans, LA | The Times-Picayune

The Times-Picayune has an opening for one of the best beats in American journalism: city politics in New Orleans. The Crescent City has its share of challenges: corruption, aging infrastructure, a police department that’s on the ropes. But what promise. For three centuries, the story of New Orleans has been one of continuous rebirth. Its passionate politics is an outgrowth of the city’s unique culture, neighborhoods and people. It has a growing tech sector and could be an important node in the green economy. It also has thriving energy, advanced manufacturing, international trade, healthcare and tourism sectors.

And yes, the food is great. Also: Mardi Gras! Jazz Fest! Essence Fest!

We’re seeking an experienced political reporter who can navigate a policy-heavy beat centered on City Hall and the City Council while also developing stories on various other topics, including housing, transit and infrastructure. The ideal candidate would beat the competition on the day’s biggest story, while working to develop deep-dive enterprise or investigative stories. The Times-Picayune is a locally-owned, Pulitzer Prize-winning news that is passionate about producing thoughtful journalism both in print and on our website, NOLA.com. The company is an equal opportunity employer, committed to recruiting, developing, and promoting a diverse workforce while providing unique opportunities and career paths for our employees. We encourage applicants of all backgrounds and experience levels to apply.

This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package that includes medical, vision and dental insurance, short term disability, long term disability and a 401K plan.
