Join the 2023 New York Times Fellowship class as a data reporter on the Upshot team. The Upshot fellow will gather data, analyze it and create news articles or graphics to share this analysis. Applicants should demonstrate comfort with both basic statistical analysis and traditional reporting. They should also have some programming skills (in R, Python or a similar language), enjoy learning new technology and be interested in collaborating with reporters or Graphics editors. The most competitive candidates will be strong data journalists who have a track record of using statistics and data analysis to drive their reporting. This program is for early-career journalists. Applicants with more than five years of full-time, professional journalism experience beyond school will not be considered. The most competitive candidates will be college graduates or postgraduates or career pivoters of any age who have had multiple internships or equivalent experience in open-source intelligence and related fields.
