In early 2020 we launched a US edition and have grown the business into a 140 plus staff, hitting all traffic and revenue targets to become the fastest growing news site in the U.S.
We are now looking for a stellar News Editor who is able to work across all sections and maintain the efficient running of the news desk, which is the linchpin of the US operation.
The successful applicant will work with the Head of News to drive the news agenda, be first with exclusives and oversee a growing team of reporters of various experiences.
The ideal applicant should have at least five years in journalism including two years news editing.
The candidate will have a nose for what the next big story will be and a passion for breaking stories. They will be responsible for taking on leadership tasks within the team, including mentoring junior editors and writers.
The position will be based in News Corp’s Midtown Manhattan office, which boasts a subsidized restaurant. This is not a remote role.

Core hours are 7am - 4pm Monday to Friday. The candidate will also be part of the weekend editing rota which requires covering approximately one weekend in four - with comp days given a Friday and Monday before and after a weekend is worked. Weekends can be done remotely.

Key Accountabilities:
Work quickly to jump on breaking news to be the first to get stories live with the best copy, pictures, and video
Help oversee the team of reporters - giving constructive feedback and encouragement on ways to improve copy
Lead daily morning and lunchtime conferences - present ideas to be scrutinized by senior editors
Come up with ideas for lines to pursue exclusive and unique angles
Assist with forward planning
Work with pictures and video team to ensure all stories from department include best visuals
Work with audience teams to stay on top of best breaking trends
Ensure that all stories from the department are legally sound
Edit the homepage and push notifications when needed
Edit copy to ensure it’s punchy and in The US Sun style
Help oversee growing out new sections of the site including motors
Key Skills and Experience:
At least 5 years of journalism experience
At least 2 years news editing experience at a news website or daily publication
A strong background in news reporting
Proven ability to bring in exclusive stories
Must have an understanding of audience analytics, social media, and SEO
