Military / Veterans Reporter

The Virginian-Pilot/Daily Press is seeking an energetic, enterprising reporter to cover the military. This beat includes covering the world’s largest naval base as well as a large community of veterans from all branches of the armed forces. This is a highly visible job and one of our most critical missions. The paper has had two Pulitzer Prize finalists come from its military coverage. We place an emphasis on watchdog journalism, but we’re also looking for someone who can take readers inside the military culture and produce vivid, compelling narratives. Creativity, resourcefulness and the ability to cultivate sources at all levels of the military are a must.
