The Wall Street Journal is looking for a versatile, high-energy producer for a new role in the video department managing a YouTube channel. The job entails leading and overseeing their own Logistics, Engineering and Planning themed channel that they will host.
In this role, you will host a weekly video program covering logistics and engineering stories, showing viewers how some of the biggest structural projects in the world are undertaken. This will involve programming a list of engaging story ideas that will resonate with the audience. The YouTube channel will consist of a mix of trending topics and longer-lead features and explainers, as well as YouTube Shorts. We’re looking for someone able to take complicated issues and make them easier to understand for our large and growing audience. The producer will be comfortable reading scripts and speaking to camera in a conversational tone.
You will be joining the team as the main producer of informative, explanatory pieces based on news in the particular beat. You would be instrumental in the launch of this new channel, while also working side-by-side with reporters and editors throughout the newsroom, and a strategy team focused on growing YouTube channels.
This role is based in our New York offices. You will report to Adam Banicki, senior executive producer, YouTube.
You will:
Manage day to day production of your channel, as well as oversee the work of video journalists, editors and graphic designers working on your stories.
Coordinate with programming and strategy teams to determine the best packaging and rollout of videos
Pitch, research, report, and edit news videos when it breaks in your beat, as well as create explainers and original series.
Appear on camera weekly to host a YouTube channel.
Partner with WSJ video and social teams to produce short-form video content when appropriate.
Coordinate with the Senior Supervising Producer to work with video journalists
Work with the newsroom to conceive of larger projects and themed packages.
Make appearances on the main WSJ YouTube when stories in your beat rise to that level.
You have:
3+ years of professional video journalism experience, preferably on the logistics and engineering beat.
Experience managing your own productions in a fast paced environment.
A demonstrated ability to file fast-turnaround high-quality reporting on tight deadlines.
An ability to explain complicated concepts plainly to a wide audience.
Previous digital video or television experience preferred, and are comfortable appearing and speaking on camera.
