The Washington Post is seeking an experienced editor to drive breaking news coverage across the Features department, which ranges from entertainment to media to fashion and all facets of culture. We are looking for someone who embraces the immediacy and urgency of news, whether it’s a celebrity death, a court case development, a bubbling controversy or whatever else is making headlines in our coverage areas. The ideal candidate can quickly identify when a story is worth jumping on, which stories are of most interest to the Post’s audience, and how best to execute and develop original angles that distinguish our coverage. This editor should also be adept at assigning and guiding reporters as well as editing and elevating copy on a quick turnaround. The breaking-news editor will sometimes work in tandem with editors from other teams in the Features department to shape coverage and serve as the primary point of coordination with The Post’s General Assignment breaking news team.
