The Washington Post is seeking a breaking news video producer and editor for our expanding climate coverage. This video producer/editor will be an important daily contributor to breaking news on Washington Post sites, YouTube and Instagram. The video producer/editor is expected to generate original ideas, produce live events, and identify and source social video. We are looking for an excellent collaborator who will work closely with all newsroom teams. This role will often lead our video coverage for extreme weather events by sourcing video elements, creating quick, optimized clips for Instagram, editing original footage from reporters in the field and producing quick-turn original packages to complement and elevate our reporting. The producer/editor makes news-driven and audience-focused decisions on what video to create or aggregate. The ideal candidate is a versatile journalist with a background in acquiring and verifying video and producing in-depth video stories and explainers. This position requires at least three years’ experience in a fast-paced newsroom, strong news judgment and the ability to multitask. Editing quickly on Adobe products is also required.
