General Assignment News Desk Reporters

New Posted 31 July 2022 | Washington, DC | The Washington Post

The Washington Post is looking for two accomplished journalists to join our General Assignment team, which contributes breaking news coverage and writes on a wide range of topics in various formats for departments across the newsroom. Original reporting, speedy execution and resourceful thinking are expected of GA reporters, who should be comfortable covering multiple topics at varying paces. GA writers produce richly reported and artfully written same-day stories that appeal to a wide range of readers. They might cover politics one day, contribute a health and science explainer the next, and write about history, crime or pop culture the day after. We want timely, resonant stories that add depth and context to our coverage of the nation and the world. The GA desk is also a newsroom leader in delivering our live updates, the rapidly refreshing news tickers often on our homepage, and is typically the first to dive into the details of an unexpected breaking-news event. The ideal candidate is an experienced reporter energized by the opportunity to do something different every day and has demonstrated sharp storytelling skills and a talent for finding emerging stories and angles. Familiarity with Pacer and Nexis and fluency in other languages are valued. This position requires night and weekend work. It is based in our Washington newsroom and is not eligible for remote work.
