Global Weather Writer

New Posted 8 September 2022 | Washington, DC | The Washington Post

The Washington Post is seeking a creative and energetic science journalist to cover extreme weather and related stories about the climate and our changing planet. This writer will have a wide-ranging role on a weather team that is expanding as part of The Post’s Climate & Environment department. This reporter will be expected to write with urgency about weather events around the world, filing context-rich, scientifically rigorous stories about extreme weather developments. The reporter should also look for opportunities to explore the underlying meteorology behind these events and explore the wide range of ways that these events affect humanity and our ability to prepare and respond to disasters. Top candidates will have a boundless enthusiasm for weather and climate and be committed to writing in accessible, engaging and highly conversational prose. This is a high-metabolism role that requires producing stories throughout the week, often on tight deadlines, and a willingness to pivot easily between different weather-related developments. We expect this writer to embrace a range of storytelling formats, including graphics, video, audio and social media.
