New Posted 16 August 2022 | Washington, DC | The Washington Post

The Washington Post is looking for a government accountability and policy editor on the National Politics desk to oversee reporting on the federal government and its workforce, as well as some of the most fiercely debated issues spurring legislation at the federal and state levels. This editor, who will report to the senior politics editor, will be a crucial voice in guiding some of the Politics staff’s most distinctive enterprise work and will play a key role in spearheading collaborations with other teams in the newsroom that cover federal agencies. We are looking for someone with strong editing skills who can help reporters break news about how the White House is driving its agenda within the federal bureaucracy and execute powerful accountability stories assessing whether the government meets its mission to serve the public. This editor also will lead coverage of the fast-moving fight over access to abortion, both the formation of policies in Washington and in state capitols and the political fallout. In addition, this editor will guide coverage of other significant policy developments in state legislatures.
