Jerusalem Bureau Chief

New Posted 15 August 2022 | Jerusalem Bureau | The Washington Post

The Washington Post is seeking a Jerusalem Bureau Chief to join a team of reporters dedicated to covering the Middle East at a time when rifts within Israel, including a growing assertiveness among Arab citizens and ongoing political chaos, have added to tensions in the region. The bureau chief is primarily responsible for coverage of Israel, the West Bank and Gaza but may also be enlisted for coverage elsewhere in the region or beyond. This is a challenging, high-profile assignment that requires surehandedness, an even temperament, and a willingness to cover conflict in a part of the world that has seen more than its share of uprisings, repression and wars. In filling this role, we are seeking an accomplished journalist with a proven record of covering challenging assignments with authority and distinction. Any candidate must be sufficiently nimble, collaborative and well-sourced to pivot between fast, authoritative news coverage and deeper, more ambitious, high-impact reporting that unearths the facts and insight needed to illuminate Israel and the Palestinian territories at this juncture. The most qualified candidates will have previous experience as a foreign correspondent, ideally in the Middle East. Proficiency in Arabic or Hebrew would be highly advantageous.
