Media Reporter

New Posted 3 November 2022 | Washington, DC | The Washington Post

The Washington Post has an opening on its busy, ambitious media team for a reporter to expand the reach and depth of our coverage of the news industry. The writer will work with a team of four other reporters based within the Features staff – Paul Farhi, Sarah Ellison, Jeremy Barr and Elahe Izadi – who cover media with energy, voice and a dedication to telling stories that speak to a broad audience of news consumers as well as industry insiders. The position requires the ability to find scoops and break news on a wide-ranging, competitive and evolving beat. We are also looking for a thoughtful analyst and fluid writer who can step back and tell the larger stories about the significant personalities who make the news happen, the tensions and conflicts within the practice of journalism, and the trends propelling how we consume the news today. Experience covering the media industry is not required. But the successful candidate will be an avid news consumer who is equally interested in broadcast, digital and print journalism, and who comes ready with strong ideas and thoughts about areas that demand more of our focus. Those interested should upload a cover letter, résumé, three of your best clips and a memo (as PDFs) on how you would approach the role to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 11/11/2022 will be prioritized. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Executive Features Editor Ben Williams, Deputy Features Editor Mitch Rubin and Assignment Editor Amy Argetsinger.
