Local Government Reporter

New Posted 13 September 2023 | York, Pennsylvania | The York Dispatch

We are passionate about accountability journalism at The York Dispatch and are looking for a dogged local government reporter to join our team. This reporter would join an aggressive team of journalists in south-central Pennsylvania and should be adept at obtaining public documents, analyzing budgets, and asking probing questions of decision-makers.

York County is a diverse region that includes some 450,000 residents spread across 72 urban, suburban and rural communities. We're looking for a reporter who can effectively cover a wide range of issues: From York City's struggle to combat gun violence to the transformation of farmland into industrial warehouses. They should also be comfortable using all the storytelling tools we have at our disposal, including databases, social media and video.

About us: The York Dispatch is an award-winning independently owned five-day print newspaper in York, Pennsylvania. We emphasize digital-first work and hard-nosed, accurate accountability journalism. We're a Guild shop in a two-newspaper town. Joining us will mean working with journalists who doggedly pursue stories that matter to actively engaged citizens.

The York Dispatch is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value a diverse workforce and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or disability.

If this sounds like you, please send a resume, cover letter and three examples of your best work to Managing Editor Wallace McKelvey, wmckelvey@yorkdispatch.com.
