Business/News Writer

TheWrap is seeking a part time business and news writer who can write about financial markets and assist the morning news team with breaking news. You should be well-versed in writing business and financial news, with a specific focus on how it relates to the entertainment and media sectors.

Your copy should be clean, clever and conversational.

Knowledge of AP style and love of a good headline is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, energetic and capable of multitasking in a real-time news environment. This is a part-time, freelance position.

Required skills:

At least 5 years experience writing about business for professional outlets
The ability to quickly verify and cover breaking business news
Experience reading and reporting on earnings statements
The ability to report out stories from scratch, including ideating and source-building
Superior news judgment, with a passion for the business of entertainment
Proficient and speedy on a CMS such as WordPress
Ability to crop photographs
SEO and social media savvy

This position pays $30-35/hour, experience dependent, for a minimum of 20 hours per week.
