Reuters is looking for a Chief Economics Correspondent to cover the momentous economic and financial shifts underway in the Gulf region and Iran. You will lead our coverage of how the finances and economies of the region shape governments, companies and societies. You will travel regularly and work with colleagues in the six GCC countries as well as digging into how a possible Iran deal could transform the sanction-hit economy of the Islamic Republic. The region is witnessing tremendous changes as Gulf oil producers led by Saudi Arabia attempt to reinvent their economies to reduce dependence on oil revenues. Economic competition is also heating up between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates after the Saudi government said it would no longer work with foreign companies that lack a regional base in the kingdom from 2024, challenging the dominance of Dubai as the Middle East’s business hub. The UAE itself is diversifying into new areas of growth such as cryptocurrencies and fintech. To be successful in this role, you will be a strong reporter and writer as comfortable with breaking news as with shaping original, ambitious coverage. You will lead by example and work with reporters in the region to generate exclusives, deliver sharp analysis and deliver distinctive coverage that sets us apart.
