Reuters is looking for an outstanding reporter to drive coverage of Spanish and Portuguese energy companies and energy policy as Europe grapples with its worst supply crisis in generations as a consequence of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The rapid rise in the cost of energy has taken regional economies to the brink of recession and increased the momentum of the transition from fossil fuels to renewables. The correspondent should also deliver stories on and contribute to coverage of climate change and the energy transition across Europe. As part of the Reuters global energy and commodities reporting team, the successful candidate will break news and deliver agenda-setting stories on the energy sector in Spain and Portugal as part of the region-wide story of how economies and companies are facing up to the energy crisis while navigating the path to carbon neutrality. The successful correspondent will be responsible for corporate coverage of the region’s top energy companies – including Repsol, Iberdrola and Naturgy – and the evolving energy policies of both countries. You will be expected to build excellent contacts inside these companies and the eco-system around them to break news and lead the narrative on corporate strategy. You will also work closely with finance team colleagues on key M&A activity in energy.
